Finding Intersectional Moments - Tré Wright, October 2023

In this Fireside Chat with Tré Wright, we explored ways to find and make the most of Intersectional moments.

Here were the key takeaways:

  1. 'Point-in-time' moments such as events are intuitive opportunities for intersectionality. However, it's more important than ever to think about intersectionality as an ongoing value of your ERGs. Create opt-in moments for members to provide their potentially different experiences or perspective. Regularly and pro-actively meet with other ERG Leads to find common ground.

  2. Intersectionality can be found in more ways than sharing an identity. Some examples of intersectionality beyond identity are shared challenges of your lived experience, shared geographies, or shared opportunities for progress within the workplace.

  3. You're not "doing something wrong" if you experience times with light member engagement. During these times, double down on supporting those who are there, as they may need the group more than ever. Consider using light engagement times to refresh your understanding of members' needs and adjust your group's goals to reflect that evolved understanding.
